Upper centre-right: Canadian Mounted Rifles in Winnipeg around 1901. The men are wearing Boer War service dress and the "lemon squeezer" hat worn by many British Cavalry units during the war. The long Lee-Enfield rifle was used by Canadian infantry and mounted infantry.
Lower centre-right: The Cannington Militia -- part of the 34th Battalion of the Ontario County Volunteers around the 1860s.
Upper right: The Battle of Ridgeway: In 1866, Fenian raiders crossed the Niagara River and engaged a mixed force of British soldiers and militia before withdrawing across the U.S. border.
Lower right: 1885 North West Rebellion: Battle of Cut Knife CReek fought on May 2, 1885. Attacked by Mounted Police, militia and regulars, Cree and Assiniboine warriors repelled the attack.
